Press release

Passengers can now enjoy a comfortable space while waiting for their driver

April 26, 2022

TORONTO, ONTARIO – Representatives from Uber and the Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA) came together to celebrate a newly designed seating area at Toronto Pearson’s Terminal 1.

The seating area is located on the ground floor in a designated area for passengers who are waiting for their ride. The GTAA worked with Arconas to source sustainable furniture, and a living wall was designed and installed by local Toronto company Gardenstead.

The sustainable wood of the furniture provides a warm and comfortable atmosphere for the area, and is also aligned with the GTAA’s commitment to sustainability and Uber’s road to zero emissions. Passengers were treated to refreshments during the event to help mark the opening of the space.

Uber representatives were on hand, and they presented the GTAA with an Innovator Award. In 2021, Pearson became the first airport in the world to offer mobile food ordering and contactless pick up through the UberEATS app. The app allows passengers to avoid lines when ordering, creating a touchless experience. The app automatically detects when a passenger is at the airport and informs them of the nearest food options.
