A connection of the Eglinton Crosstown to Toronto Pearson just came closer to reality

In November 2019, we announced our commitment of up to $40M to partner with Metrolinx to advance the technical work required to bring the Eglinton Crosstown from Renforth Station to Pearson – this section of the line is known as the ‘airport segment’. This work falls under our transit studies partnership with Metrolinx that has a total value of $78M.

The Eglinton Crosstown is expected to be one of the first rapid transit projects that will have a direct connection to our future ‘Union Station West’ transit facility. Throughout 2020, we’ll continue to collaborate with Metrolinx and other stakeholders to determine the stations and route that the Eglinton Crosstown will take along the airport segment.

Metrolinx is currently accepting online public feedback as part of the addendum to the original 2010 Eglinton Crosstown environmental assessment to reflect the new routing to Renforth Station. Visit metrolinxengage.com to participate.

Connecting the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension to Pearson would be important new infrastructure for our region. Not only does the airport serve an average of 135,000 passengers per day, there are 50,000 airport workers at Pearson and approximately 300,000 workers employed in the Airport Employment Zone (AEZ) around Pearson. The AEZ is the second-largest employment zone in Canada, second only to downtown Toronto. Creating new and more frequent transit connections to and through the airport area enables growth across the region and benefits workers, small employers and large businesses.
