Meet Tim, Engineer of our passenger transportation systems

Meet Tim, Engineer, Passenger Transportation Systems at the Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA).

Tim works behind the scenes to develop medium to long-term restoration programs, figuring out if our equipment should be replaced or refurbished, and provides engineering support for Pearson's passenger boarding bridges, elevators, escalators, moving walkways and the Automated People Mover (the train that links Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 to the Viscount parking garage).

“The pandemic pushed us to think outside the box. As part of Healthy Airport, we trialed innovative technologies to minimize the transmission of pathogens through surfaces,” explains Tim. “This includes making elevators touchless thanks to Bluetooth-enabled elevator pushbuttons and UV-C sanitized handrails on escalators and moving walkways. We are also expanding the use of UV-C light to clean the air in the terminals and GTAA buildings, and installing more touchless water bottle filling stations for passengers and employees.”

“We work hard to make our passengers feel safe and healthy at the airport, so this ASQ award is important to me because it recognizes our commitment to everyone that passes through Pearson.”

Thanks for everything you do, Tim!

Be sure to check back each week as we profile a new employee as part of the celebrations around our recent ASQ win. To learn more about our 2020 ASQ award recognitions, visit our press release.
