WhyYZ: Travelling on the UP Express

Travelling soon and wondering what your best option is for getting to and from the airport and downtown Toronto?

Our new WhyYZ series helps to answer these questions and more, providing helpful tips and an insider’s look at how our Healthy Airport and the work of our partners has changed to keep passengers and airport workers safe and healthy.

Phil Verster, President and CEO of Metrolinx, shares how the UP Express is a safe and convenient mode of transport for you, and what health and safety measures are in place.

I’m arriving at Pearson and need to get downtown quickly. What’s my best option?

The UP Express, an above-ground train, is the best connection between Terminal 1 at Pearson and downtown Toronto in a speedy 25 minutes, with two stops in between at Weston and Bloor St. West. The trains currently run every 30 minutes between 5:40 am and 10:40 pm on weekdays and 6:40 am and 10:40 pm on weekends and holidays. Find out more about the current service schedules.

Are the trains safe to ride during COVID-19?

We’ve stepped up cleaning and implemented 40+ new safety measures, which are guided by public health officials. These include mandatory mask use, cleaning and disinfecting high-touch areas using products on Health Canada’s list of hard-surface disinfectants, increased cleaning of all washrooms, , good air circulation on trains and in stations and new CleanSlate UV machines at Union Station and Pearson to sanitize your electronic gadgets such as smartphone, tablet, and other non-porous items such as your pen, keys, and your PRESTO card.

Let’s take care of each other. These changes will help all of us stay healthy and safe.

How do I pay for a ticket for an UP Express ride?
